The Pondering Poet Pilot
Sydney, Australia

Bio: My name is Stephen Tomkins, an A380 Captain for an international airline. I am married with kids. Interests: music, guitars, poetry, reading, psychology, and learning. For many years, I had been creating silly rhymes and songs for my children. As they grew up, and found my creations embarrassing (ah teenagers!), I felt drawn to write poetry of a different kind - some humourous, some less so, on whatever topic grabs my attention. It's strange how the mind works at times! All posts are my own original work. If you would like to share them, you are most welcome to do so provided that you attribute authorship to me. Thank you for your support. I hope you enjoy my creations.

  1. I’m wondering if I might be able to comment here, as I just typed a comment that vaporized — “Sorry, this comment could not be posted” — on your post, Life in a Minor Key. Maybe your current post settings won’t allow comments?
Your post has been cued up and waiting for me to read for several days. Fitting to read it first today, as today is my Birthday! I’ve booked a glider flight for this afternoon, in Tehachapi, California. Soaring over the recent snow, the pristine mountains, will give me the best perspective-shift from land-lubbing, aging human to soaring spiritual superwoman. (Yet, think of all those who would love to be our now-amassing age, who left us far too young!). As I read your post, I wish for a big Moody Blues orchestration to accompany it :)) Thanks for the introspective post. Dawn

    • Hello Britta. Thank you so much! I really appreciate that you thought of me and my blog, and that you went to the trouble to nominate me.
Thank you also for the kind words you wrote in your recommendation. I gratefully accept your nomination and promise to get around to responding officially soon! (I’m flat out at the moment so please don’t think me ungrateful if I don’t get around to it for a few weeks!)
Thank you once again and happy writing!
      Stephen 🙂

      • You’re most welcome! Your blog is quite wonderful and the nomination is much deserved.
That’s absolutely okay if you don’t get around to writing for a little while. I understand that life gets in the way sometimes. 🙂

  3. I wish I’d found your blog sooner! Really entertaining little posts. I love your humor, and your ability to take any ordinary thing and turn it into something extraordinary by bringing life to it. Fabulous writing, please never stop! (I can also imagine you would be great at writing childrens books!)

    • Thank you very much for your kind words. I have actually written and ilustrated a children’s book called “The Thin Red Lion” but to get it published!!!

I have older poems, some funny some serious, that I will be posting periodically, plus I am still writing as the inspiration takes me!

I’m enjoying your blog too! I’ve only found two posts though and, when I get to xmisswhiskey.wordpress.com, there’s nothing there. Am I doing something wrong?

I find writing to be very therapeutic, don’t you?

      • Oh brilliant! I’d love to see it on shelves one day 🙂

Thank you, I’m trying to work it out now to be easier to navigate… On the right hand sidebar you should see “Archives” and “Recent Posts” if that helps?

Yes, I definitely find writing, and all forms of art for that matter, very therapeutic! I don’t know where I’d be without some kind of creative outlet.
